Following the call of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, men and officers from from Pakistan Army, Navy and Air Force joined the Liberation War of Bangladesh. Soon after, innumerable people from all walks of life – farmers, labourers, students, and commoners joined in too. Their endless bravery, courage and intellectual feat begot a new nation, which is Bangladesh.

'Bir Sreshtho' is the highest recognition of the bravery in armed forces of Bangladesh. The War of Liberation of 1971 is a glorious chapter in Bangladesh’s history. It saw the determination of the masses to fight against the atrocities of the Pakistani Army. To recognize the limitless valour of the freedom fighters, the below mentioned martyrs of the War of Liberation have been awarded the Bir Sreshtho medal.
